FAR HEADINGLEY VILLAGE SOCIETY
The FHVS exists
to maintain and improve the environment and facilities of the local
area for the benefit of all local residents and others who visit the
area. It was founded in the early 1970s when the area
around Cottage Road was threatened with demolition, and it was
instrumental in the creation of the Far Headingley Conservation Area. It has an Annual General Meeting to which all members
are welcome, and a summer social/fund-raising event, in recent years a
popular Wine Walk. The 2010 AGM will be held
on a Friday in November, date to be confirmed, and the Wine Walk will be held on Sunday 13th
June 2009, raising over £500 for Society funds and Wheatfields hospice. The 2009 Wine Walk raised over £500, which was divided between society funds and Wheatfields hospice. The speaker at the 2009 AGM was Eveleigh Bradford, on "Headingley: 'This pleasant rural village'" - the title of her 2008 book, available from the Art shop in Weetwood Lane, from Headingley Library, and from all bookshops. The Committee meets about five times a year. Committee
meetings in 2010 are planned for 9 Feb, 22 April, 9 June, 28 Sept, 1 Dec. They are open to all local residents. Please contact the
secretary if you would like to attend.
